A BALM IN GILEAD RABBI MICHAEL RESPONDS
A BALM IN GILEAD
Rabbi Michael Whitman
The words of Zijad and John are a soothing balm to the Jewish soul, and to all humanity. I appreciate and respect Zijad’s statement even as I deplore the reasons it is necessary. I echo John’s words, “We commit ourselves to proclaiming our firm conviction that violence and terrorism are incompatible with the authentic spirit of religion.”
Jews, like everyone else, prefer pointing fingers at others rather than at ourselves. Yes, there is war and violence in Jewish history. And even though for more than 3000 years its sanction has been limited to self-defence, we must always remain vigilant against war and violence for political or religious motives. As in many areas of life, recognizing we can make a mistake is the first key to insuring we do not.
It is imperative we learn about each other from each other, and not from those who profit from our enmity.

I’m writing to make you be aware of of the fine experience my wife’s girl enjoyed visiting your web page. She mastered too many pieces, which included how it is like to have a very effective teaching mindset to let other people just know precisely certain multifaceted subject areas. You undoubtedly surpassed her expected results. Thanks for providing such beneficial, healthy, revealing and also fun tips on your topic to Emily.
